Barry Trailer reported some great findings in his July 16th blog about lead generation trends.  Managing partner at CSO Insights, Mr. Trailer issued his 2010 Lead Generation Optimization Report which is based on surveys of over 600 companies.

His findings certainly point to important trends for lead generation experts like Brad Powers.  He found that, in 2010, 72% of firms are increasing their marketing budgets, in contrast to dramatic decreases last year.  He also found, for the first time in the 7 years of this report, that a small majority of firms now track the ROI of their marketing campaigns.

Fynanz recently launched a new website providing students with valuable information on various college financing options.  It also has useful sites and articles providing regularly updated content.  It is hoped that this will give students easily accessible information on different types of funding, choosing the right college, financial aid, etc.  It will also be a great resource for students’ parents.  Brad Powers is an advisor to Fynanz.

One example of viral marketing is using a free email provider, like Yahoo! or Hotmail.  How does it work?  The email company provides free email services so people want to sign up.  But, as we all know, there is no such thing as a free lunch, so what is the catch?  The email company uses each of your outgoing messages to advertise themselves.  The effect of this is that your email network will forward the email to their lists and then those people will take advantage of the “free” email service too which will have the viral impact of advertising the company even further.

This is certainly an interesting article from a guest writer for Search Engine Land.com writing about how not to become the “Bed Boys of Conversion.”  The article looks at lead generation and helps businesses to create a plan for their own practical use. Check it out!

While it may have been some years since Brad Powers earned a BA in Psychology and an MBA from Clark University, he is still involved as an alumni and a board member of the Graduate School of Management (GSOM). So Powers might be in the know about what other alumni are up to. Beth Regan, for example, was awarded this year’s Outstanding Secondary Educator Award (OSEA) last month from the Clark University Alumni Association. One receives this award for “the critical role [secondary-school teachers] play in preparing students for higher education.” It is an annual award presented at Honors Convocation. Regan is a teacher of Russian history at Tolland High School and has also developed her own Native American Studies course that she instructs there too.

Thinking about doing a little internet marketing of your own? Do you think you know enough to bring traffic and business to your company using the powerful internet as your vehicle? Before you try the “Do It Yourself “approach, check out some of the pitfalls and common mistakes many people have about internet marketing in this well-written and informative article, “A Little Marketing Knowledge Is A Dangerous Thing: The Top 10 Marketing Myths.” It is certainly worth the time invested in reading this article to help insure the best possible results of any internet marketing strategy you are considering.

Internet marketers like Brad Powers are experts in how to use the internet and all its variety of aspects to the best advantage possible.

Those that are not experts can sometimes let assumptions about the internet and how internet marketing works interfere with their ability to get the best results possible. Small businesses may decide that with a small amount of knowledge they can tackle the complicated task of getting traffic to their web site and converting that traffic into business.

Here are a few reasons that having some knowledge about internet marketing might be more detrimental to success than having no knowledge. Or as the old adage goes, “A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.”  Here are a few examples of how only knowing a little can work against you.

•    “It’s really just the traffic to my site that counts.” No. What really counts is the business that traffic generates. It is much more useful to have fewer visitors if they are more likely to make a purchase, than to have more visitors with less chance of buying. Smart internet marketing strives to attract a target audience.

•    “Meta -Tags are an important part of search engine marketing.” No again. There are many elements to search engine marketing, with meta-tags only being one of them.

•     “Once you reach the top, the job is complete.” Heck no! As long as there is strenuous competition for the keywords that are crucial to your business, you can never relax your efforts at getting to and staying at the top.

•    “Fool the search engines with extra, hidden content.” This is a dangerous business which can get you penalized to the netherworld of the rankings, if not banished all together. Spamming is a big no-no, and should not be done.

Small Biz Trends.com recently blogged about why social media is such an effective lead generation tool.  She explained that it distributes your content, helping you to take advantage of larger networks than your website provides.

Social media also offers a very effective way to reach out to people who tweet relevant posts for your business.  She explains how to create an advanced search on Twitter Search that will alert you when someone tweets something relevant in your area.

You can also increase your leads by answering questions on items with which you have an expertise.  For instance, go to Yahoo Answers, Business Answers and other relevant question/answer sites and you may be able to increase leads.

Lead generation is a vital tool that many leading internet marketers, like Brad Powers, use to their advantage.  These tips can help you to get started and to branch out in areas you may not have previously considered.
