Internet marketers like Brad Powers are experts in how to use the internet and all its variety of aspects to the best advantage possible.
Those that are not experts can sometimes let assumptions about the internet and how internet marketing works interfere with their ability to get the best results possible. Small businesses may decide that with a small amount of knowledge they can tackle the complicated task of getting traffic to their web site and converting that traffic into business.
Here are a few reasons that having some knowledge about internet marketing might be more detrimental to success than having no knowledge. Or as the old adage goes, “A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.” Here are a few examples of how only knowing a little can work against you.
• “It’s really just the traffic to my site that counts.” No. What really counts is the business that traffic generates. It is much more useful to have fewer visitors if they are more likely to make a purchase, than to have more visitors with less chance of buying. Smart internet marketing strives to attract a target audience.
• “Meta -Tags are an important part of search engine marketing.” No again. There are many elements to search engine marketing, with meta-tags only being one of them.
• “Once you reach the top, the job is complete.” Heck no! As long as there is strenuous competition for the keywords that are crucial to your business, you can never relax your efforts at getting to and staying at the top.
• “Fool the search engines with extra, hidden content.” This is a dangerous business which can get you penalized to the netherworld of the rankings, if not banished all together. Spamming is a big no-no, and should not be done.
